UNDERWATER & SUBSEA OPERATIONS
Underwater operations are a critical part of functional shipping ports and offshore seabed construction. Commercial divers are specialist operators with detailed knowledge, who perform complex operations under the ocean's surface. This might include seafloor construction of pipelines, maintenance of underwater structures, or maintenance of ship's underwater fixtures.
Recent high-profile cases of 'marine biofouling' on ships' hulls have seen them denied entry into Australian ports. Where there is buildup of biological organisms on a ship's hull, these pose a contamination threat to Australian waterways, and the vessel may need a large hull-clean before being allowed to dock. This complex operation is conducted by highly skilled commercial divers.
Divers are also engaged in the Australia fishing industry, the Royal Australian Navy, offshore oil & gas, ports & harbours, and environmental conservation. The Nautical Institute membership boasts senior leadership of commercial diving companies.
