Navigation in a Digital World - Sydney Dinner Seminar​

​Book now for our next special event!  Navigation in a Digital World will examine the quantum leaps forward which navigation has taken in recent years, and canvass the next iterations of onboard and shore-based technology.
 
Our guest speakers are Dr Julius Moeller and Mahesh Alimchandani.

Dr Julius Moeller is the Senior Advisor for Navigation Safety and Digitalisation at AMSA. His expertise lies in global digitalisation, cybersecurity, and maritime communications. With a background in computer science and maritime digitalisation, Julius has contributed to international maritime standards through technical committees of the IHO, IMO, and IALA. He is also the Vice-Chair of the ICSM S-100 working group. 

​After completing his PhD in Germany, Dr Moeller relocated to Australia to work for AMSA, where he focuses on designing, implementing, standardising, and validating maritime IT solutions to enhance navigation safety.​

Mahesh Alimchandani MBA AFNI is the Head of Navigation and Communications Systems in the Policy and Regulation Division of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).  Mahesh is a Master Mariner (Class 1) and has served on a variety of ocean-going cargo ships for over fourteen years.  He has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Canberra.  Mahesh is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute. 

​Mahesh has been with AMSA for over 28 years.  He leads a team responsible for the development of policies and practices that enhance the safety of navigation in Australian waters.  This includes nautical advice to enhance the effectiveness of AMSA’s aids to navigation network.  His team also has oversight of automation, radiocommunications systems and distress alerting.
 
Mahesh represents AMSA at various national and international navigation safety forums.  He served as the Technical Manager at IALA from 2006-08.  Mahesh received an Australia Day achievement award in 2004, and the AMSA Chairman’s Award in 2011.
