OFFSHORE EXPLORATION & EXTRACTION
Australia's offshore oil and gas reserves are vast. From oil extraction in Bass Strait, to natural gas production in North Western Australia, petroleum extraction and export is a large industry which contributed $422 billion to our economy in 2021-22.
Australia extracts and exports:
Over 95% of Australia's hydrocarbon exports are carried by sea, giving The Nautical Institute considerable insight into this industry. It is estimated that the primary hydrocarbon reserves in Australia have 25-35 years of viable commercial production remaining.
